“Entropic Landscapes” wanted to activate the debate on the consequences of the environmental impact of a site&medium specific artistic action inside the white cube, the Espai Rambleta in Valencia (Spain). It was articulated through several actions and creative processes:

The first action took the form of a Sedum plant bomb that was installed in early summer 2015 on the rooftop of Espai Rambleta. Its shape and size was reminiscent of those bombs that did fall during the Spanish Civil War over the city of Valencia. However, this new bomb was conceived to house a living ecosystem that was left to grow and develop without fertilizer, with the only support of the sun and minimal watering (five minutes twice a day). After more than 6 months, during which its drifts were conveniently documented, the ecosystem was transferred to the interior of the exhibition space, becoming the epicenter of the artistic proposal.



Once inside the Espai Rambleta, the bomb and its particular microbiotic, plant and animal ecosystem (including insects, fungi, etc.) was maintained with daylight lamps and assisted irrigation. Around it, all the photographic and videographic records, the field studies (drawings, sketches and collages) were arranged according to the different living circumstances before and during the exhibition period, together with two sculptures helmet-pots that activated other performative actions: Portions of the ecosystem were cycled along the urban context of Valencia (later also adapted in the city of Barcelona), documenting all the reactions of citizens, drivers and authorities from the point of view (video framing) of the plants.

The “Entropic Landscapes” project points towards the expanded conception of artistic practice, eminently ecocritical, always subject to the randomness of the open systems where it is inserted, and where the artwork is positioned as activating, documenting and organizing an idea of CULTURE that is neither confronted nor separated from the idea of NATURE.

El proyecto “Paisaje entrópicos” quiso activar el debate sobre las consecuencias del impacto ambiental de una acción artística site&medium specific dentro del cubo blanco del Espai Rambleta de Valencia. Y para ello, se articuló a través de varias acciones y procesos creativos distribuidos en espacio-tiempo:

La primera acción tomó la forma de una bomba vegetal de Sedum que se instaló a principios de verano de 2015 en la azotea del Espai Rambleta. Su forma y tamaño recordaba a aquellas que sí cayeron durante la Guerra Civil española sobre la ciudad de Valencia. Sin embargo, esta nueva bomba fue concebida para que albergase un ecosistema vivo, que se dejó crecer y desarrollarse sin abono, en la atmósfera valenciana, con el único soporte del sol y un mínimo regadío (cinco minutos dos veces al día). Después de más de 6 meses, durante los cuales se documentaron sus contingencias y derivas, el ecosistema fue trasladado al interior del espacio expositivo, convirtiéndose en el epicentro de la propuesta artística, como caso de estudio y reflexión.

Ya en el interior del Espai Rambleta, la bomba y su particular ecosistema microbiótico, vegetal y animal (incluidos insectos, hongos, etc.) fue mantenida con lámparas de luz día y riego asistido. En torno a ella, se dispusieron todos los registros fotográficos y videográficos, los estudios de campo (dibujos, croquis y collages) según las distintas circunstancias de vida antes y durante el período de la exposición, así como dos esculturas macetas-casco que activaron las últimas acciones performativas: Con ellas se pasearon pequeñas porciones del ecosistema a lo largo del contexto urbano de Valencia (más tarde también se adaptó al contexto de la ciudad de Barcelona).

El proyecto “Paisaje entrópicos” es un diverso conjunto de obras que señalan hacia la concepción expandida de la práctica artística, ecocrítica, siempre sujeta al azar de los sistemas abiertos donde se inserta, y donde la propuesta artística se posiciona como activadora-provocadora, documentadora y organizadora de una idea de la CULTURA que no se enfrenta ni se separa de la idea de NATURALEZA.
